- Project Patent Crafting
- Client Euro Patent Office
- Location Italy
- Date November 2023
The Challenge
The client specializes in intellectual property, serving both inventors and companies wishing to protect their inventions through patent filings. Typically, drafting a patent required between 3 to 10 days, depending on the complexity. High-profile professionals such as engineers, architects, chemists, and physicists, who command high hourly rates, were typically employed in this process. On average, the cost of producing a patent was around $2,000. The client required automation to allow for human intervention. The advantage in this case study is that a patent is a standard document that must maintain a fixed structure and layout, regardless of its content.
The Solution
Two distinct workflows were designed: one for complete automation, used for less complex and more straightforward patents; and one for a sequence of AI models, used for more challenging patents that require human intervention during the drafting process. In the first scenario, the user inputs either a recorded conversation with the inventor, which is automatically transcribed by the system, or a few descriptive lines of the original patent idea. Simply pressing the “Generate” button produces the entire document within about ten minutes. The user then downloads the document and delivers it to the client after a brief review.
In the second scenario, the user can follow the procedure step by step, working with the preset AI in a sequence of ready models. The document is produced effortlessly in a single morning.
- Rapid document generation
- Cost-effective patent production
- Minimal human oversight required
- Streamlined workflow integration
The Result
We implemented a computerized panel containing various expert chatbots capable of partially substituting the knowledge of numerous high-profile professionals, along with the two described automations. The client reduced the production time of a ready-for-delivery patent from an average of 5 business days to just one morning, and the cost was reduced to around $400.
- Significant reduction in labor costs
- Drastically decreased turnaround time
- Increased consistency in document quality
- Enhanced scalability of patent production
